Couples and Relationship Therapy in Newbury
A safe, calm space in Newbury or online to explore your relationship challenges and find a way back to connection.
Denise is a Level 5 Couples and Relationship Therapist, including neurodiverse couples.
Couples and Relationship Therapy for communication and conflict
When talking at home has stopped working, it helps to have someone in the room who listens to you both. Denise helps you slow down, so each of you can be heard.
Communication patterns
Notice how you talk to each other, and what happens when conversations go round in circles. Find ways to say what you mean, and to hear each other.
Conflict resolution
Look at what sets arguments off and how they tend to play out. Work on disagreeing in a way that feels safer for you both.
Intimacy and connection
Make room for closeness again, whether that means affection, trust, time together or simply feeling like a team.
Support for neurodiverse couples
When one or both of you are neurodivergent, for example autistic or with ADHD, you may take in the world, and each other, in quite different ways.
Differences in how you talk, handle busy days, show care or need time alone can lead to hurt and misunderstanding that neither of you meant. Denise’s Level 5 training includes working with neurodiverse couples, so these differences can be talked about openly, without blame.
You don’t need a diagnosis to come. If you think neurodivergence might be part of your story, you can mention it in your first call.
Things you might explore together
- How each of you prefers to talk, listen and take in information.
- What happens when one of you needs quiet and the other needs closeness.
- Moments that tip into arguments or shutdown, and what might help.
- Ways of showing care that make sense to you both.
How sessions work for couples
- You come together, in person in Newbury or online from home.
- Sessions last 50 or 75 minutes, weekly or fortnightly.
- Denise works with you as a pair. Occasionally there may be a brief individual check-in.
- You review how things are going together, along the way.
Questions couples often ask
The first session together is a chance for you both to talk about what brings you here and what you hope for. Denise listens to each of you, and together you see whether you feel comfortable working with her.
Occasionally there may be a brief individual check-in. Mostly, Denise works with you as a pair. This keeps things transparent and helps build trust between you.
It varies from couple to couple. Denise reviews progress with you both along the way, so you can decide together what feels right.
Online relationship counselling follows the same process as sessions in the room in Newbury. You join together from home.
Couples session fees
Choose 50 or 75 minutes. A longer session can give you both more room to talk.
Concessions are available for students, NHS workers and people on benefits. Just mention it when you get in touch.
