How Counselling Works
What to expect when you start counselling with Denise, in Newbury or online. Three simple steps, clear fees, and answers to common questions.
Three steps to getting started
Each step moves at your pace. You can ask questions at any point.
Get in touch
Send a short enquiry through this website, or call 07847 116 911. Denise will arrange a brief call to talk about your needs and answer your questions.
Your first session
The first session focuses on exploration. You talk about what brings you here, and you both see whether you feel comfortable working together.
Regular sessions
If it feels right, you carry on with weekly or fortnightly sessions, at a pace that suits you.
You don’t need the right words before you come.
In the room, or online
Both work the same way. Choose whichever feels easier for you.
In person in Newbury
Sessions take place at 2 Bartlemy Road, Newbury, West Berkshire RG14 6JX. You can find directions on the contact page.
Online
Online sessions follow the same process, from home or anywhere you can talk privately. They can be easier to fit around work, family or travel.
Session fees
Because not every week looks the same. Sometimes you need a little longer, sometimes a shorter session is all you have time for.
Concessions are available for students, NHS workers and people on benefits. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Common questions
Couples and Relationship Therapy
The first session together is a chance for you both to talk about what brings you here and what you hope for. Denise listens to each of you, and together you see whether you feel comfortable working with her.
Occasionally there may be a brief individual check-in. Mostly, Denise works with you as a pair. This keeps things transparent and helps build trust between you.
It varies from couple to couple. Denise reviews progress with you both along the way, so you can decide together what feels right.
Online relationship counselling follows the same process as sessions in the room in Newbury. You join together from home.
